Dr. Alaina Kessler joins the Department of Medicine joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Oncology as an Assistant Professor in June 2025.
Dr. Kessler is a board-certified medical oncologist with a focus on breast cancer. She received her medical degree from the University of Connecticut School of Medicine as well as a Master of Public Health from the University of Connecticut. She completed her internal medicine internship and residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai in New York during which she was selected to participate in the Healthcare Leadership Track. Following residency, she joined the faculty as Instructor of Medicine working as a hospitalist. She then completed her hematology/oncology fellowship at Mount Sinai including serving as chief fellow. Following fellowship, she joined the faculty as Assistant Professor of Medicine in the Division of Hematology and Medical Oncology at Mount Sinai. Her clinical and research interests focus on breast cancer, specifically the outcomes of breast cancer treatment. Dr. Kessler also has a strong interest in healthcare quality and care delivery. In addition to her faculty position at Mount
Sinai, she served as the Assistant Director of Oncology Quality and Safety of the Tisch Cancer Center. In her quality role, she was responsible for several inpatient and ambulatory quality initiatives and an active member of numerous quality committees. She has a strong interest in medical education with recurrent teaching presentations focused on breast cancer and quality at fellowship education events. Dr. Kessler recently joined Washington University Physicians and the Siteman Cancer Center as Assistant Professor of Medicine and Associate Director of Quality for Medical Oncology where she is eager to continue her clinical, research, quality, and education interests.
