Intern of the Month
Dr. Niyaza Mammootty
“She is an outstanding intern who exceeded every expectation. Performing at a very high level in all regards and t’s only July! She has very strong patient care skills eliciting details about the patients’ lives that often affected care and helped us individualize plans. Her communication to patients is empathetic, clear, and concise. She easily established rapport with our veteran patients. We had a difficult week where we were getting some odd prelim recs from the Cardiology team that clearly were insensible. She deftly recognized this and addressed them in a way that was direct without being rude. She stood up for her patient and the team and ultimately helped reconcile the issue. She created plans which were often accurate and required little modification. She especially excelled in practice-based learning.”

Intern of the Month
Dr. Eden Charles
“She is doing a fantastic job in the clinic. She recently had a difficult situation regarding a patient and their usage of opiates. She did a fantastic job counseling the patient, finding out more about the problem, and working to come up with a solution. She had great communications kills, looping in everyone she needed to so the problem was fully addressed. Additionally, she has shown great bedside manner when counseling patients and her plans are well thought out and appropriate. Keep up the good work!”

Resident of the Month
Dr. Charlotte Starling
“She consistently goes above and beyond for her clinic patients. She takes the time to truly listen, empathize, and understand their problems, even with the short time frame weave for visits. She has had multiple difficult social situations to navigate with patients and has done so with the professionalism and grace of someone who has been practicing for many years. She is thorough, and always probes to the social determinants of health that may be impacting the patient, rather than just treating the numbers in front of her. I would be lucky to have a family member cared for by her.”
“She did a fantastic job teaching interns new procedures, all while juggling a really busy schedule. She stayed calm, organized, and professional throughout, and brought a warm, kind energy to every patient and team interaction. Her leadership and attitude really stood out and made a big difference!”

Resident of the Month
Dr. Noah Romero Nakajima
“He was extremely helpful to his fellow residents while on AMBJAR. On multiple occasions residents were running behind and he quickly jumped at the opportunity to help. He even used the phrase “this is a good learning opportunity”, and I don’t think it was said ironically! When most people may have been upset to be asked to do more work, he was gracious and helpful. More than that, he is an excellent clinician. His plans are well thought out and extremely thorough.”
”He did an outstanding job as a brand new second year resident leading his first time. He is exceptionally thoughtful about communication with both patients and team members. He engaged in perspective taking and adjusted his approach to meet the needs of those around him, adapting to make his style effective in challenging encounters with patients, complex dynamics related to patient placement, and family member anxiety. He also did a great job supporting the interns and preparing them to handle problems, while remaining available to be sure patients received excellent care.”
