Dr. Niyaza Mammootty

Intern of the Month
Dr. Niyaza Mammootty

“She is an outstanding intern who exceeded every expectation. Performing at a very high level in all regards and t’s only July! She has very strong patient care skills eliciting details about the patients’ lives that often affected care and helped us individualize plans. Her communication to patients is empathetic, clear, and concise. She easily established rapport with our veteran patients. We had a difficult week where we were getting some odd prelim recs from the Cardiology team that clearly were insensible. She deftly recognized this and addressed them in a way that was direct without being rude. She stood up for her patient and the team and ultimately helped reconcile the issue. She created plans which were often accurate and required little modification. She especially excelled in practice-based learning.”

Intern of the Month
Dr. Eden Charles

“She is doing a fantastic job in the clinic. She recently had a difficult situation regarding a patient and their usage of  opiates. She did a fantastic job counseling the patient, finding out more about the problem, and working to come up with a solution. She had great communications kills, looping in everyone she needed to so the problem was fully addressed. Additionally, she has shown great bedside manner when counseling patients and her plans are well thought out and appropriate. Keep up the good work!”

Resident of the Month
Dr. Charlotte Starling

“She consistently goes above and beyond for her clinic patients. She takes the time to truly listen, empathize, and understand their problems, even with the short time frame weave for visits. She has had multiple difficult social situations to navigate with patients and has done so with the professionalism and grace of someone who has been practicing for many years. She is thorough, and always probes to the social determinants of health that may be impacting the patient, rather than just treating the numbers in front of her. I would be lucky to have a family member cared for by her.”

“She did a fantastic job teaching interns new procedures, all while juggling a really busy schedule. She stayed calm, organized, and professional throughout, and brought a warm, kind energy to every patient and team interaction. Her leadership and attitude really stood out and made a big difference!”

Resident of the Month
Dr. Noah Romero Nakajima

“He was extremely helpful to his fellow residents while on AMBJAR. On multiple occasions residents were running behind and he quickly jumped at the opportunity to help. He even used the phrase “this is a good learning opportunity”, and I don’t think it was said ironically! When most people may have been upset to be asked to do more work, he was gracious and helpful. More than that, he is an excellent clinician. His plans are well thought out and extremely thorough.”

”He did an outstanding job as a brand new second year resident leading his first time. He is exceptionally thoughtful about communication with both patients and team members. He engaged in perspective taking and adjusted his approach to meet the needs of those around him, adapting to make his style effective in challenging encounters with patients, complex dynamics related to patient placement, and family member anxiety. He also did a great job supporting the interns and preparing them to handle problems, while remaining available to be sure patients received excellent care.”

Kudos

Ghandi Hassan – He was helpful, attentive and hardworking in the MICU. I observed him supporting his co-residents and being a positive influence on the team.
Annie Lien – Outstanding inpatient resident in the first weeks of internship. She had 3 brand new interns over 2weeks of the year and she was patient and calm, helping the interns prioritize tasks and make supported decisions. She was always able to pick up tasks that were a challenge to keep the team organized and efficient.
Kavita Patwardhan – Stellar first-time performance as a resident on Firm.
Ashton Naumann – Ashton was a fantastic senior to work with for my first month as an intern trying to survive firm. He did an excellent job of making me and my co-intern feel supported, while also providing opportunities for independence. He helped me learn efficiency, but even when I struggled to be efficient early on he refused to leave the hospital until I was done with my work, fostering a great team feel in our work room. I feel excellently prepared to tackle the rest of intern year because of the support and instruction I received from Ashton on firm.
Yawar Ali
Yawar Ali – Second time working with resident; continues to be excellent; he handled new interns/team with ease, everyone on the team commented how calming his presence is, he is super thorough/on top of all orders/ results etc; anytime I had a question for the interns, he already had asked that question!
Asma Mammootty – Outstanding intern, above and beyond what one would expect at this time of year; one of the best bedside manners I have seen!
Nina Manian
Nina Manian – Proved to bean outstanding team leader, utmost caring, and thoughtful physician. She has a unique in-depth clinical knowledge in cardiovascular but also general medicine. She is a very modest and caring person putting the junior residents and care team in front. For example, she was rapping the feet of a patient “personally “to mobilize the tissue water back into the venous system in a patient with severe HFrEF as nurses thought it to be too risky. She also made sure that her time finished in time and shuffled time for them by staying always last in the office.
Dallin Merrell – Was massively helpful on procedure team! Carried the team through two very busy weeks!
Greta Tamkus – Greta is amazing! She is able to calmly lead our team and provide exceptional patient care while teaching and modeling how to be a caring, compassionate physician— all in July with new interns and two students!! I can’t express how impressed I am and honored to be her attending.
Sarah Ream-Winnick – She is just killing it at this time of year. She is holding the firm team together and helping to mentor and guide the new interns while teaching both the clerkship and the IM-ACR student, run ACTs on call days, and make sure we give every patient the best care possible. And she makes this all look totally effortless.
Nick Griffith – Outstanding team leader who provides comprehensive, empathic, and responsible care.
Sharma
Pranav Sharma – Dr. Sharma performed above and beyond to deliver outstanding patient care A patient presented after a 2-year period of not seeking care. Dr. Sharma established rapport with the patient. Based on symptoms, he also surmised that the patient might have new onset diabetes. Later that evening, the lab contacted me for a critical glucose level. By the time I called the patient, Dr. Sharma had already followed upon the labs and arranged emergent care for the patient. The patient was very grateful for Dr. Sharma’s care and concern and commented how much he liked his new doctor! Kudos to Dr .Sharma!
Maxwell Barffour – Maxwell has done a great job on AMBJAR. Specifically, one patient that he saw went out of his way to express his gratitude for the care that Dr. Barffour provided. The patient said he had a great bedside manner, took the time to explain the problem and plan for his care, and had great medical knowledge. The patient felt that Dr. Barffour really connected with him.
Cody Hart – He has been an exemplar of great resident. He counsels compassionately, works efficiently, helps out with tasks readily, and acts with confidence yet asks for help when he doesn’t know the answer. He’s been a big help to me on my first week as a pgy2 in the VA. His ideas and suggestions have always been astute and kind.
Gabby Rodriguez – Gabby modeled what true patient advocacy looks like. She consistently put her patients first by doing what was best for them—even when it meant facing pushback from staff or other team members. Watching her stand firm in doing what’s right reinforced for me that good medicine isn’t always easy, but it’s always worth it.

Congratulations to all our amazing residents, and thank you for the work that you do!
