I am pleased to announce that Zach Morgan, MD, Assistant Professor of Medicine, in the Division of Hospital Medicine, has been appointed as the Medicine 2 Firm Medical Director (units 5400 and 5500). Dr. Morgan is a native of Memphis, TN. He graduated from Rhodes College with a degree in Biology in 2010, attended medical school at the University of Tennessee, and completed his Internal Medicine training at BJH/WashU.
Dr. Morgan has been faculty in the Division of Hospital Medicine since 2018. His primary interests are clinical operations and medical education. He is currently the Co-Director for Patient Care Operations for the Division of Hospital Medicine (DHM), the largest clinical division in the Department of Medicine with nearly 150 providers and 400 daily inpatient encounters. He is also a member of the DHM Leadership Team and Education Committee. He directs the Hospital Medicine portion of the residency noon conference curriculum, lecturing on topics such as VTE prophylaxis, perioperative medicine, and interventions to reduce hospital length of stay.
Dr. Morgan will be joining our Medical Director team for the inpatient teaching services, alongside Dr. Margo Girardi (Med 1 units 14300/14400/14500) and Dr. Mustafa Husaini (Cardiology units 9200 and 10200). The teaching service medical directors serve in dual roles to assist with Department of Medicine and Barnes-Jewish Hospital operations and patient safety, and quality for medicine inpatient units. Medicine Firm Directors work closely with hospital, nursing, and Department of Medicine leadership to improve patient care delivery and patient experience, and they help optimize learner experience on the teaching services as core faculty members of the Internal Medicine Residency Program.
I would also like to extend my thanks and gratitude to Dr. Stephanie Conner for her service in this role. Dr. Conner is transitioning at the end of this academic year to Columbia University in New York City, as Section Chief for Hospital Medicine. She did an outstanding job as the inaugural Medicine 2 Firm Medical Director. We are very grateful for her time and wish her well in her new leadership role at Columbia University.
Please join me in congratulating Dr. Morgan on his new leadership role.
