Rehan Rais, MD

Dr. Rehan Rais joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hospital Medicine as an Instructor in June 2024.  He was born in Karachi, Pakistan and completed his early education and medical school there.  He graduated from Liaquat National Medical College with honors.  During his time in medical school, he received many accolades including receiving the medical director’s medal for best graduate from his class of 100 students.  He then moved to the United States for post graduate training. Interestingly, Dr. Rais has completed an Anatomic and Clinical Pathology residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  During his first residency he also served as a chief resident and was involved in recruitment of new residents.  He later also completed a Hepatobiliary and Gastrointestinal Pathology fellowship and is a board certified Anatomic and Clinical Pathologist.  During this time, he actively published more than 15 peer reviewed articles including numerous posters and represented the institute at national conferences.

Dr. Rais’ clinical interest swayed him to then pursue additional training in Internal Medicine and he completed his internship and residency at Barnes-Jewish Hospital/Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.  Focused on improving patient care, he has been involved in multiple quality improvement projects including optimizing guideline directed medical therapy in heart failure patients and PCP-patient continuity in the outpatient setting.  His clinical interests include general inpatient and outpatient medicine with focus on efficiency on inpatient medicine.  In his free time, Dr. Rais enjoys following cricket, Formula 1 and spending time with his family.  He also enjoys hiking, snorkeling, and exploring the outdoors.  During his time in the United States, he has visited 36 states and 22 U.S national parks.  He looks forward to providing excellent and patient centered care as a team member of the Division of Hospital Medicine.
