Department of Medicine Faculty Honored at Academy of Educators Annual Education Day

Sponsored by the Academy of Educators, the annual Education Day was held on Tuesday, October 11, 2022, to celebrate educational excellence across the School of Medicine. The event featured a variety of educational topics, a keynote address from Paul Williams,MD, associate professor of medicine at Temple University Hospital, and a celebration of new inductees to the Academy of Educators and education-focused award recipients. A poster session with time for networking wrapped up the day.

Several Department of Medicine faculty were involved in the planning and programming ofthe event. Nephrology’s Timothy Yau, MD, and Allergy and Immunology’s Jen Monroy, MD, chaired the Education Day subcommittee for the Academy of Educators. Several workshops were led by Department of Medicine faculty including Dominique Cosco, MD and Steven Cheng, MD. Roundtable discussions were led by Patricia Kao, MD, MS, on “Teaching Pathways” and Kenneth Ludmerer, MD, on “Evolution of Medical Education”. Department of Medicine poster presenters included: Will Freeman, Gayathri Krishnan, MD, Koeun Lee, Shinji Rho, and Mayam Saleem, MBBS, and Steven Cheng, MD. “Education Day is an opportunity for us to honor our mission by providing valuable programming and fostering community among our member educators,” comments Abby Spencer, MD, Department of Medicine Vice Chair of Education and Director of the Academy of Educators. “And, the event is a time for us to recognize and celebrate our educators making a difference across the School of Medicine. I encourage all faculty to consider joining the Academy if you’re not yet a member, nominating a deserving educator for an award, and participating in this very special annual event to celebrate our educators and education.”

Rakhee Bhayani, MD, Carol Faulk, MD, Donna Jeffe, PhD, and Eileen Lee, MD, were all inducted as new members of the Academy of Educators.
