Dr. Ben Rogers joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Gastroenterology as an Instructor in July, 2020.
Dr. Rogers completed his undergraduate studies at Western Kentucky University majoring in biology. After that, he spent one year teaching English language classes in Spain, subsequently continuing his education at the University of Louisville in Kentucky where he obtained his Master’s degree in biophysics and physiology, followed by his medical degree. During his training at Louisville, Ben served as a member of the school of medicine’s LCME Accreditation Survey Committee and as Director of the Greater Louisville Organization for Health free clinic in Louisville, Kentucky. He was also a member of the Editorial Board of “Louisville Medicine,” the monthly publication of the Greater Louisville Medical Society and creator of a section entitled “The Student Lounge” which allowed medical students to have a monthly article in the publication; as well as also acting as a regular contributor. He then came to Barnes-Jewish Hospital and Washington University Medical Center for internal medicine residency program in 2014 before he joined the GI fellowship program in 2017.
Dr. Rogers joins the GI Division as a competent and confident gastroenterologist who is capable of treating the entire spectrum of complicated gastrointestinal issues from inpatient to outpatient. He continues his research on GERD and dysphagia with Dr. C. Prakash Gyawali, areas of focus which he began examining during internal medicine residency through the Mentors in Medicine program. He has been very productive with multiple publications and abstracts, including presentations in international conferences overseas. He has been recognized with a Veterans Affairs National Seed Grant and the Eckert Clinical Research Award. In addition, he is highly proficient in computer programming, serving as an Epic SuperUser for Norton Healthcare during his medical school training in Louisville, and collaborating with computer engineers to extract big data from the publicly available CMS database. Currently Dr. Rogers is also collaborating with Dr. Chien-Huan Chen regarding researching billing variations in GI endoscopic procedures through data mining the CMS database.
