Dr. Amber Afzal joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Hematology as an Instructor in July, 2019.
Dr. Afzal graduated from medical school (Army Medical College in Pakistan) in 2010 as the class valedictorian. She completed her Internal Medicine residency at Cleveland Clinic, Ohio in 2016. She graduated from her Hematology and Oncology fellowship at Washington University of St. Louis in 2019 as the best graduating fellow. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology and Medical Oncology. She is a current student of MSCI (Masters in Science of Clinical Investigation) with planned graduation in May 2020.
Dr. Afzal is a hematologist by profession with keen interest in teaching and clinical research. She is clinically inclined towards benign hematology particularly thrombosis, and clonal myeloid disorders – myelodysplastic syndrome and myeloproliferative neoplasms. As a clinical investigator, her focus has been outcomes research projects using national databases. She enjoys working with house-staff and medical students in clinics and on research projects.
