Dr. Reema Syed joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Rheumatology as an Associate Professor in September, 2019.
Dr. Syed is a board certified Adult and Pediatric Rheumatologist who completed her combined fellowship at Saint Louis University in 2007 and is currently Associate Professor of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics. Dr. Syed completed her medical School training at Dow Medical College in Karachi, Pakistan before joining Michigan State University-Hurley Medical Center for her combined internal medicine and pediatric residency in 2000. At Saint Louis University she has been Associate Program Director for the fellowship programs for both the adult and pediatric fellowships for many years and 4 years ago became the Pediatric Rheumatology Fellowship Program Director. She has also been the course director for the Rheumatology Objective Structured Clinical Examination (ROSCE) and joint injection workshops at SLU. Since joining as faculty she has been involved in many research opportunities and has expanded the pediatric rheumatology research footprints at SLU through collaborations with CARRA, PRSCG, and industry sponsored clinical trials. She is excited to be joining as Associate Professor and Clinical Educator at Washington University in St Louis and looks forward to enhancing her career with continued collaborations. She plans to start a transition clinic to help adolescent rheumatology patients transition better into the adult medical systems. She has previously served on the board of the Lupus Foundation of America Heartland Chapter and plans to continue staying involved with the lupus clinic at WashU. She also plans to help with providing rheumatology care via telemedicine in rural Missouri. Dr. Syed is passionate about caring for children with juvenile arthritis, childhood onset systemic lupus erythematosus, vasculitis, juvenile Psoriatic arthritis, and fever syndromes as well as adults with rheumatoid arthritis, lupus and vasculitis, and will continue to take care of both adults and children with rheumatologic needs in her new position.
