Dr. Claudia Villatoro Santos joined the Department of Medicine in the Division of Endocrinology, Metabolism & Lipid Research as an Instructor in October 2024. She earned her medical degree from Francisco Marroquin University School of Medicine in Guatemala City, Guatemala in 2014. She then earned a postgraduate Master of Science (“MSc”) in Epidemiology at the University of Michigan School of Public Health—Ann Arbor (“UM”) from August 2015 to August 2016.
After training between September 2016 and April 2019, Dr. Villatoro Santos received her PhD in Epidemiology, also at UM. Immediately after earning her PhD, she completed a four-year Internal Medicine Internship and Residency at Ascension St. John Hospital in Detroit, Michigan. Her key interests include diabetes prevention and management, especially diabetes technology and obesity management.
