Welcome: Alex Politsmakher, MD
September 1, 2014
Alex Politsmakher, MD, assistant professor of Medicine, Division of Medical Oncology
My training is in internal medicine and geriatric medicine. I joined New York Methodist Hospital staff working in the infusion center. I had ample experience with oncological patients providing and monitoring chemotherapy infusions and toxicities. I became familiar with burdens and obstacles of cancer patients on a daily basis. I also became quite acquainted with various protocols and chemotherapy toxicities. I was transfixed by the struggle of my patients and decided to devote my life to alleviating their suffering.
I pursued my career goal at the New York Methodist Hospital of Weill Cornell Medical College and completed training in a combined hematology/medical oncology fellowship program. Training in a community-based University Hospital, I had the advantage of hands-on experience, which included exposure to clinical trials. I treat various types of malignancies and hematological conditions. I am board certified in internal medicine, geriatric medicine, hematology and medical oncology. I have a particular interest in cancers of breast, lung, genitourinary tract, gastrointestinal tract, melanoma, head and neck, multiple myeloma, lymphomas and chronic leukemias.
More recently, I spent two years working with veterans at St. Louis VA Medical Center and decided to further pursue my academic career at Washington University. Becoming faculty at the university has provided me with an excellent working environment and a great opportunity to implement and participate in various clinical trials.New Faculty
